Uniquely Madeleine:
A Celebration Of The Life And Work Of Ashley Hall Alumna,
Madeleine L’Engle ’37

Ashley Hall is thrilled to celebrate the life and work of one of its most distinguished alumna, Madeleine L’Engle Camp Franklin, Class of 1937. L’Engle attended Ashley Hall as a boarding student beginning in 1933 and went on to write the award-winning novel, A Wrinkle in Time, which garnered the prestigious Newbery Award in 1962.

This year marks the centennial of L’Engle’s birth as well as the exciting release of a new major motion picture by Disney of her beloved story, A Wrinkle in Time. We are proud of this Ashley Hall girl. Click here to watch the official trailer for A Wrinkle in Time.

Madeleine L’Engle returned to Ashley Hall to deliver the commencement speech to the Class of 1982. She shared with the graduates, “I don’t want to lose any part of who I was at Ashley Hall. It’s an essential part of who I am now. I don’t want ever to forget sitting high up in the limbs of a live oak tree and reading Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina.” Read the full speech below.
